En: Slash's riff in L.A. Guns live!?

Today's article is ... about Slash's song. But not about Guns N' Roses' or SMKC's (Slash / Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators). And not about guitar play of Slash either.

Do you still want to go deeper with me?  Are you sure?

Slash's Snakepit

Let's go back to the days of post Guns and pre Velvet Revolver days.

Slash's Snakepit was, as its name suggests, a guitar-driven hard rock band lead by the guitar legend after his GNR days.

In 2000, Slash released then long-awaited 2nd album "Ain't Life Grand" with new members and he finally went back on the road.

This album was well received by Japanese rock fans too.

Life's Sweet Drug

What I liked most about this album was a newly hired lead singer, Rod Jackson, whose singing & performance was just blazing.

When I first heard his voice, I was like "How has he been unnoticed by major labels!?"

Especially, #6 "Life's sweat drug" instantly became my heavy rotation.

Keri Kelli

When I saw their Osaka show, I found another cool guitarist on the other side of Slash, who was Keri Kelli.

Keri  was playing with Ryan Roxie in Alice Cooper band back then and these two guitarists have similar play styles based on classic rock vibes.

LA Guns era

After that tour with Slash, Keri joined LA Guns, where countless players have come & gone until today.

Despite his short stay under the brand, his live performance was recorded & left, which I have found by chance on YouTube the other day.

Though I've never been a huge fan of LA Guns, my interest in Keri Kelli made me click some videos.

Brought to LA Guns stage!

Then it was when I was watching a jam & member introduction in the middle of "Long Time Dead" video above.

My "Slash otaku ears" never let a guitar riff Keri played through ... yes, it was a riff from "Life's Sweet Drug"! (6:08-6:20)

I guess the vocalist Phil Lewis had no idea what Keri was playing there...

I'm not sure if Keri played this riff with much intention or not, but this is a kind of hidden gem only hardcore GNR family fans would notice.
